(Editing other people's comments is typically bad form but this is outright misinformation, you can apply a Nano mod to a Blaster and doing so effectively gets you a Nanomachic Blaster but with the rest of your mod slots intact.)

The blaster, as the description implies, is very useful as a secondary weapon if you have Dualgunner. Perhaps the most interesting factor of this exotic weapon is that as well as the initial projectile, there are two other projectiles fired at congruent angles to the sides of the path of projection (much like a mancubus attack).

Another interesting thing to note about the blaster is that the primary projectile will explode in a 1.5+ radius of plasma damage directly over the targeted tile, and the secondary projectiles will explode in a similar manner when their position forms a perfect arc with the around the center of the player (see vision).

The blaster can be used in some situations, like clearing barrels, walls, or cleaning corpses. Sometimes it's been used to completely obliterate levels while under the influence of an invurnability globe. However, the fact that the projectiles spread, and explode on the target square, and the weapon uses hefty ammounts of plasma (this weapon shouldn't really be needed to fire more than 5 times a game), the assistance of more savory weapons should be found.

Bottom line? An interesting find, and it's certainly a good idea to fool around with it a bit to see if its worth keeping around for a level or so. For the long term, this weapon is not the best idea for regular combat.

Blaster

0.9.9.7

No significant changes to the weapon itself.

The blaster is overall very similar to the pistol. It is slightly less accurate, but has a slightly faster fire time. It also has a plasma damage type, which can come in use against lost souls and revenants, who have bullet resistance, or against any monsters with heavy armour.

However, the main interesting thing about the gun is the fact that it acts as though it has had a superior Nano Pack slapped onto it. This means that it recharges, and in fact more quickly than an N-modded pistol, but it also means it cannot be reloaded normally. To make up for the inability to reload, it has a larger magazine than any pistol but the combat pistol.

The blaster, as the description implies, is very useful as a secondary weapon if you have Dualgunner. Its regeneration means that the trait does not cause you to use extra ammo, as it usually does, and its plasma damage type helps against those pesky lost souls. The high power weapon and storm bolter pistol assemblies are both quite useful on this weapon, since the fact that they empty the magazine faster matters less if it regenerates. Or you could just put some mod packs on it -- just remember that the energy pistol and speedloader pistol assemblies have no effect on this weapon.

Even if you do not have Dualgunner, the blaster can be useful as a swap to take out high-armour enemies, or to destroy walls (note that it won't be able to without some SoG or SoB).
